I began my teaching career in 1988 as a Special Education Teacher in the Saratoga Springs City School District in New York. I loved every aspect of her job, however gave it all up after 16 years, to receive the opportunity to teach in a very educationally needy part of the US. I welcomed the challenge of leaving my comfortable world behind to face the unknown of teaching in the USVI.
After teaching 4th grade in a private school for two years, parents persuaded me to begin my own Homeschooling program. The Homeschooling program grew from two students the first year to seven students by the third year. I also tutored over 10 children a week with great success. The years from 2004 - 2009 were a dream come true for me to have had the opportunity to teach in paradise and help many children.
I truly enjoyed my time in the Virgin Islands, however due to a family illness, I chose to return to South Glens Falls, New York. I was a substitute for the WSWHE BOCES area from 2009-2011, taught Special Education Summer School in 2010 and 2012, and after the birth of my daughter in January 2011,enrolled online to obtain my Master of Arts, Mathematics Education (5-9) through Western Governors University.
In December of 2012, I received the once in a lifetime offer to teach English in Panama, Central America. In January 2013, my daughter and I packed up our belongings and went off to Panama for one of the most unique experiences of my life. As my time in Panama was ending, I was approached by the amazing staff at Horizon Elementary School to take over a 4th grade position mid-year. So, once again, my daughter and I packed up and headed off to a new adventure in Arizona. This is my second full year here at Horizon, and I couldn't be happier that I made the decision to head off to the desert to begin a new life.
